Open Letter to the Undrafted

To the Undrafted-

I’m writing to let you know that your efforts have not gone without notice.  To let you know that not having your name announced in Chicago doesn’t determine your potential career.  It doesn’t mean that you should throw in the towel and give up on your dreams.

To the Undrafted-

Find solace in the fact that there are a myriad of NFL players that have had success without being drafted.  The goal is to get into that building and show the coaches, front office, and fans what you’re really made of and take full advantage of any and all opportunity awarded to you.  When someone won’t step you, you step in.  When everyone has gone home, you stay for one more rep, one more play, one more film session.  Do the extra work that is required of many but isn’t commonplace.

To the Undrafted-

I don’t say this to impress you, but to impress upon you the fact that I made it from the back roads to the NFL.  Small-time arena ball, Arena Football League, and practice squads.  26 year old rookie. I’ve been where you’re at, I’ve been where you want to go.  Take the pain and emotion that you may be feeling and use that to fuel the fire that resides deep inside to climb the roughest terrain. Use my story like a mountain climber uses a Sherpa to ascend Mount Everest.

To the Undrafted-

Be humble. Be hungry.  Never stop learned.  Never settle.

To the Undrafted-

Don’t be scared to be great.  I mean, what the hell else are you there for?  Plus, it makes for a better movie.  Good luck.
